About I-ADOPT
Goal
The goal of I-ADOPT is to provide an Interoperability Framework for representing FAIR observable properties.
A brief History of the I-ADOPT Initiative
- 2018: Informal meetings between semantic experts to adress the need for a harmonized syntax to describe observable properties initiated by eLTER RI
- 2019 - 2021: RDA Working Group InteroperAble Descriptions of Observable Property Terminology WG (RDA I-ADOPT WG)
- 2022: RDA Endorsment of the I-ADOPT Recommendations (DOI: 10.15497/RDA00071)
- 2022 - 2024: Domain-specific vocabularies start implement I-ADOPT for their variables
- Autumn 2024: Two I-ADOPT Variable Modelling Challenges
- Spring 2025: Two I-ADOPT Workshops
- July - November 2025: NFDI4Earth I-ADOPT project to develop a prototype for an LLM-assisted I-ADOPT service
- 2025 - 2027: EU Horizon Europe FAIR2Adapt project (No. 101188256) develops an I-ADOPT service embedded in ROHub to enable interoperable descriptions of RO-Crates
- June 2026 - May 2029: EU Horizon Europe CDIF4EOSC project (No. 101292473) will include I-ADOPT in their Cross Domain Interoperability Framework as a Context Profile
- 2026 - 2027: Developing Extension specification to FAIRify the variables linked to sosa:observedProperty in the OGC Observation, Measurement and Sample standard
- 2026: The GO FAIR Foundation has assumed patronage over I-ADOPT developments to ensure the long-term preservation of the services and specification.
